Pop Century ~ Micoofy Duck's Resort

I don't have many nice things to write about Pop Century, one of Walt Disney World's value resorts. My party chose to stay here because of a deal that was offering free Disney Dining and their budget prior to the trip. I had never stayed at the Pop Century resort before so I figured "What could go wrong?" This would also be a new resort experience for Micoofy Duck.

Some things went wrong but not horribly wrong. And then some things went right but not perfect. This is a value resort so one should be walking into this resort with not so high expectations.

After first arriving at the resort sometime in the afternoon my party walked up to the Check In desk where we founnd no line whatsoever. I'm immediately helped but informed that we most likely will not get a room until after 3 p.m. I told the woman behind the desk that I had called a few days earlier making note that we'd like to be moved into a room as early as possible. She checked availablity and we got my room.

Luck has it we got room on the 1st floor of the 70's building due to our "preferred room location" package deal. I believe each building has 4 levels and if I had to spend an entire day at a theme park and then have to come home on a bus, mostly likely standing room only, to then have to walk up four flights of stairs... well then my vacation at this resort would have turned into something to dread at the end of each night.

You see the Disney Transportation situation at Pop Century is hideous. For a resort that has over 2,800 rooms and ten theme buildings designed for each decade from the 50's through to the 90's... well it doesn't make sense to have only one bus stop for people to use to get the theme parks.

When I mentioned "standing room only" on a bus I meant standing room only. Maybe it was just my luck but whenever I went to the parks separately from my party I just happened to get on the bus at the last minute where there were no available seats left and I had to stand the entire ride to the parks.

The only time I didn't have to stand was when my party went to Downtown Disney. Even on my last bus ride back to the resort from the Magic Kingdom to Pop Century around the time of 4pm... I had to stand.

One afternoon I saw a man grab a taxi from the front of the hotel and came back to pick up his girlfriend. Everyone commented around me that it was a great idea but that Disney Transportation is free whereas you'll have to pay for a taxi service.

Just make a mental note that Disney buses and Pop Century will be an experience you'll have to endure if you choose to stay at this resort.

Part 2 of my Pop Century resort stay is in the works. But I will say that I didn't take many photos of the resort and the design elements featured on and around the buildings because I had things to do and would rather have spent less time at the resort and more time at the parks.

awww.. when I went to disney this past March, I stayed at Pop Century and I had a blast! Yeah.. the standing room thing sucked.. especially when you're coming back from an all day trip at the parks, but I got used to it.. I stayed in the 50's building... the furthest from the bus stop. :(
